Walter T. Broyhill Endowed Scholarship

The Walter T. Broyhill Scholarship is to honor and celebrate the life of Walter. A staple in education, Mr. Broyhill taught at Appalachian High School, Watauga High School, and worked for Wilkes County Board of Education for over thirty years. In total, Walter dedicated thirty-eight years of his life to education. An avid reader and movie enthusiast, Walter also exhibited a deep love for students and their success.

Walter desired to give back to his community and support students who exhibit financial need to complete their education through an endowed scholarship.

An eligible candidate for the Walter Broyhill Scholarship will be selected by the college based on the following criteria:
• Award to Freshman
• 2.5 GPA
• Service Area Resident
• Financial Need
• Renewable
• Preference to support students seeking degrees in the sciences, preferably biology, chemistry, and physics or any two-year program.
• $1000 scholarship per student (4 per year)
